Invisalign® Q&A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign orthodontics are clear, plastic aligners used to straighten and move your teeth into proper placement. Unlike braces, there are no metal brackets or wires cemented to your teeth.

Caring for Invisalign aligners is also easier than traditional braces. The aligners are removable, so you can take them out to eat and brush and floss your teeth.

What conditions can Invisalign correct?

Invisalign orthodontic treatment can correct the same dental issues that metal braces correct, including overcrowded teeth, crooked teeth, overbite, underbite, and crossbite.

Invisalign can also be used to eliminate gaps and improve your smile if you have straight teeth with spaces between them.

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

If you want to correct your teeth with Invisalign, schedule an appointment with the team at Irma A. Francisco, DDS Inc. They’ll examine your teeth and gums and determine if you’re a candidate for Invisalign orthodontic treatment.

Most everyone can use Invisalign, except:

  • Smokers who are unable or unwilling to stop during treatment
  • Young children unable to care for their aligners
  • People without the manual dexterity to get aligners on and off their teeth

As long as you commit to wearing the aligners as prescribed, you’re likely a candidate for Invisalign.

How does Invisalign work?

If Invisalign can improve your smile, X-rays are taken to develop your customized treatment plan and your first set of clear aligners, which are manufactured at a lab. You’ll receive new aligners every 2 to 3 weeks to slowly move your teeth into position.

How often do I have to wear my aligners?

For best results, you should wear your Invisalign aligners a minimum of 20 hours every day. You should only take them out to eat and clean the aligners and your teeth.

How do I care for my Invisalign aligners?

Remove your Invisalign aligners twice daily when you brush and floss your teeth. While out of your mouth, use a soft-bristle toothbrush to also brush your aligners. You can take them out a couple times throughout the day to rinse them with cold water. You can also purchase Invisalign cleaning systems for a more thorough cleaning.

You don’t have to give up your goal of straighter teeth just because you aren’t interested in cementing metal braces to your teeth. Invisalign orthodontic treatment can create the smile you deserve. Call Irma A. Francisco, DDS Inc. or book an appointment online today.
